Advanced 3 – Next Steps

The course is aimed at a similar technical level to Advanced 2, but has different material.

The hope is that the course will encourage a creative approach to guitar playing and working out your own version of songs.

Some areas covered:

Revise keys major, minor (natural, harmonic, melodic minors).

Revise slash chords.

Some different chord voicings to use.

Basic chord types

Chord extensions – 9ths, 11ths, 13ths.

Modal versus Tonal – Modal chord progressions and songs

‘Foreign’ chords, parallel major/minor keys

Chord alterations #5, b5, #9, b9

Playing hymns on the guitar

Gospel/jazzy chords – some Gospel type songs.

Rhythm boot camp – Developing rhythmic control.

Advanced 3: Next Steps Objective

The course is designed for those who have completed Advanced 2, or have a wide experience of guitar playing. The aim is to equip the guitarist play in a variety of musical genres – Contemporary Christian Music, Gospel, Hymns.
