Improvers Worship Guitar Course

The Improvers Worship Guitar Course follows on from the Beginners. In the first few sessions the entire of the Beginners course is revised. We then go on to look at ‘barre’ chords (and how to avoid them) and the concept of moving chord shapes up and down the fret board, all demonstrated with appropriate songs.

Later in the course more complex chord structures are studied: 7th chords. Altered chords such as Dsus2 and Dsus4 are also examined.

The concept of transposition and the use of capos are also studied; the course looks at transposing songs from ‘difficult’ to “guitar friendly” keys.

Rhythm exercises become more complex and funky; a number of worship songs that use more complicated rhythm patterns are added to the repertoire. Students also begin to learn to use finger-picking patterns.

By the end of this level students a further twenty-four worship songs are added to the repertoire including songs by Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, Brian Doerkson and Martin Smith.

The Improvers Guitar Course objective:

By the end of the 10 sessions improvers worship course guitarists can continue to lead worship songs in the context of a home group. It is possible that more diligent students could begin to play in a church group and be able to make a contribution to the musical life of their church.
